50 Years of As The Worlds Turns

Whether or not you like soaps you have to give credit for a show that made the transition from radio to television and is still highly rated. It has been 50 years of As The World Turns on television.

Among the other long running cast members there is Helen Wagner who has played Nancy Hughes on As The World Turns since April 2, 1956, the first TV episode. She was born 3 September 1918 in Lubbock, Texas.

Today is the first of the two part anniversary episode of CBS's As The World Turns. The episode has Maddie Coleman imagining all the family's from Oakdale as classic TV shows.

The Snyders are in a Beverly Hillbillies skit.

Carly Tenney-Lowe-Snyder is in a I Dream of Jeannie skit including the canned laughter.

The Munsons in a Munsters skit.

Katie and family in an I Love Lucy skit Henry Coleman was Ethel and Fred.

Gwen and Will in a Happy Days skit.

The best parts was the use of original theme songs.

Sopranos Are Freaking Back

The Sopranos : Members Only
After 2 years the family is back but only 1 year has passed in their universe.
Meadow is hot and showing it to her fiancee.
AJ is being a college punk.
Carmela is having nightmares about Adrianna and her failing new home selling venture.
Tony had a good year and now everything is going bad fast.
Uncle Junior is going crazy.

The "family" is being monitored by the FBI but the first snitch has a heart attack and dies after handing over a bad tape. The second snitch can't go to Florida so he hangs himself.

Tony's day gets worse when Junior in a delusional state shoots him in the gut. Tony barley manages to call 911 and passes out.

Members Only refers to the jacket the guy who hung himself wore.

Grey's Anatomy: Band Aid Covers The Bullet Hole
Dr. Grey grudgingly says sorry to Dr. O'Malley who went all SWF to his hair.
Dr. O'Malley and Dr. Burke get closer to the ire of Dr. Yang.
Dr. McDreamy admits he's been a dick to his wife.

I've been watching all the shows some of the best this week were; King Of Queens, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, My Name Is Earl and Battlestar Galatica.

I also saw Crash...I mean Oscar winning Crash. First thing that comes to mind is that Sandra Bullock is barely in the movie but she gets top billing. Don Cheadle and Ludacris carry the movie along with Matt Dillon and Ryan Phillipe. The best scenes involve the Latino family.
Overall it's a very good movie the DVD bonuses suck but I don't care about the extras.

Thanks For The Repeats

Yes I've been so dang busy with these classes that I can't watch all the TV I'm use to.

Luckily the Olympics cured that problem. I didn't watch any of the Olympics and all the networks decided to show repeats so plenty of time to graph paraboloids and find gradients, wooo-hooo!

Here's an easy little plot z2 = (x2 + y2 )/ 9 and y2 + z2 = 1
This one is simple and took less then a minute soon and it is only getting more complicated. Soon there will be AutoCAD and projects and no more repeats on TV.

24
Overall kind of weak this season. They're repeating it tonight.

Sci-Fi Friday: Stragate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica
The last two are fine but the original Stargate SG-1 is still struggling without Jack.

Drawn Together
Has been one of the few funny things on TV.

Stephen King's Desperation has finally been given an air date but I still don't think it's solid so I'll wait.

Well if I don't write again soon I wish you all good day and have fun. Remember it's just TV, great and wonderful TV.

Super Late Week In Review

First off tomorrow is Single Awareness Day also known as Valentine's Day for couples. If you get some good for you.

Now I've been doing a 9 to 5, 5-day a week class schedule so here are my late reviews.

Surface: Episode 15
The season finale, maybe series finale, picks up with Rich being detained at Iderex(secret creepy lab) where he sees an image of Jackson on a computer screen that says "Sector 1019 Chief", whoa Jackson was working with Iderex.
Meanwhile Miles and family are preaparing to leave while his girlfriend is sent ahead alone. The family makes it to the ferry but the girlfriend gets scooter robbed and knocked out close to Miles' home.
Rich manages not to get killed and uses a cell phone to make his goodbyes.
Miles realizes that his girl is in trouble and jumps ship to find her. At his home he finds his girl and they watch the devastion in Puerto Rico. On th TV they see giant creatures that look like floating debris in the water when suddenly one of them eats the reporter. They know the tsunami is about to hit and drive away.
Laura rescues Rich and the duo make there way to the streets and flag down a car driven by Miles.
Finally all the main characters meet.
Rich takes over driving and the him and Laura meet Nim, there is only time for a quick explanation because the car goes dead as the wave breaks shore. They all run to a church and go up to the steeple as the water rises and medium size sea monsters are looking for human-snacks.
Laura then comments "It's a new world." while looking over a flooded city.
Great show bring it back for a second season!

Scrubs: My Buddy's Booty/Cabbage
Getting a bit cartoonish but having Sarah Chalke and Mandy Moore making out was cool.

Drawn Together
Sick show and cool moments making fun of other cartoons.

Grey's Anatomy: As We Know It
The conclusion from last week when EMT Hannah stuck her hand in a chest to stop the bleeding then panicked and ran away causes Dr. Grey too stupidly stick her hand for the same weak reason. Oh yeah at the same time there is bazooka shell in the man's chest.
Dr. Grey does pull it out and hand it to bomb squad guy(Kyle Chandler of Early Edition fame) when he suddenly blows up into blue mist.Another cool scene was when Dr. O'Malley dream of having all the ladies taking a shower together came true. Unfortunately it was not sexy instead they were washing the pieces of cop off of Dr. Grey.

Late Week In Review

Damn the immigrants(all non-NYers) in the subway, they spread their diseases and got me sick.
But I'm back and will do a quick run through of last weeks events starting withe best show on TV SURFACE.

Surface: Episode 14
This was a great episode. Rich is having some odd nightmares that make him the bad guy.
Meanwhile the creatures are off the coast of Puerto Rico at the Caribbean Plate digging and cracking through the Earths mantle.
[ Let me drop some science here. One of the deepest trenches in the world is the Puerto Rican trench and it is highly unstable, for years scientist said if a major earthquake ever hit Puerto Rico the entire island could fall into the trench. Also Puerto Rico is part of the United States.]
Rich and Laura set up a trap for Agent Lee and tell him that he is a clone of the original "Lee". Lee doesn't seem to be all clued in so Rich knocks some sense into him, all Leee reveals is that the release of the creatures is not an accident.
Laura leaves Rich to see her kid and gets taken by Lee but not killed. Rich bust into Iderex, a company that Lee deals with. Rich finds canisters containing two of every animal on Earth and a huge facility that is preparing for something big.
Miles sister calls her boyfriend an asshole but it comes out butt wipe. Miles frys the boyfriend during a fight. The police come to get Miles but a mob of parents take him instead. Right before the mob lynches Miles the sheriff informs them a tsunami is heading there way and it already killed 10,000 people in San Jaun, Puerto Rico.
Great episode in everyway. Just one more to go.

TV Guide: Jan. 30-Feb. 5
On the cover Grey's Anatomy and stars Justin Chambers & Katherine Heigl. A four page article talks about their after Superbowl episode. Chambers, Alex on the show, has five kids with his wife Keisha. Heigl is dating singer Josh Kelley.
As usual the subscription copy is slightly different from the on stand issue.
Good Things To Read Inside:

  • Eamonn Walker of Oz fame will be on ER.
  • A new Superman: The Animated Series special is being made.
  • Faison and Braff are as close in real life.
  • Arrested Development's last 4 episodes will be back to back against the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 10.
  • I hate Rochell D. Thomas' column Is It Just Me? but then again it could just be me.
Oprah: Dave Chappelle Interview
What Dave said: I was stressed and getting bad advice.
What Dave meant: The white man is working to destroy me and all other rich black people.
What Oprah said: You sound like at the time you were crazy.
What Oprah meant: You are still crazy and you will be back on my show when you realize there is no conspiracy.

On a side note Ben Stiller and Robin Williams just finished filming scenes of A Night at the Museum in the American Museum of Natural History, unfortunately I could not get pictures of the set. Apparently they are using CGI not puppets to make the animals come to life.

Whoops, I Guessed Wrong

Smallville: Reckoning
I guessed Chloe would die but instead they killed off Jonathan Kent. I was wrong but still it was a good episode. I still believe Chloe won't make it out of this series alive.

Lost: Fire Plus Water
In my humble opinion I think Charlie is infected with the virus that Danielle Rousseau mentioned.
Also it may have got Michael and Locke?

Could Libby be a patient or really a doctor who worked where Hurley was a patient? Either way she noticed like I did that the washer and dryers were ultra-modern the ones that came out last year or so.

While I did notice the polar bears in the crib when Drive Shaft was singing, the crashing plane in one of Charlie's visions was only visible for those with HDTV.
This is a recent trend in TV shows that I don't like because they're putting up content that is part of the storyline when not everyone, hell not even 10% of TV viewers on HD or wide screen TVs.

Monday Madness

Surface: Episode 13
Well it turns out to be a bad day for everyone. First Rich goes home and finds out his wife has filed for a divorce. Then Miles goes to a town meeting where the locals agree to hunt the sea monsters...hmm that doesn't seem to be a smart choice.
Then we learn the back story of the mysterious scientist who has Laura, she was recruited out of college by a firm that already cloned sheeps in the 1960's. The also have an Archaeopteryx, the link between dinosaurs and birds.
After Laura leaves the scientist she and Rich go to trace the money of the "firm" and end up in an abandoned factory where Rich talks to what he thought was a little girl instead it was Chaka from Land of The Lost, please people raise the budget for special effects. The creature attacks and confirms what the duo thought. The firm is making animals and can't control them.
Back in Miles' town the locals place a shootout trap for the sea monsters but the creatures instead chomp up the locals until Miles steps in and leads the swarm away.
Mad scientist woman then gets a visit from Agent Lee who tells her you talked now you die, she is allowed to contact her family one last time.
Rich and Laura take a scene from Lost and find a film that partially explains the "firm". On the film from 1957 we see a hike to the mountains and the unknown "firm" leader finding the sea lily on in a crator on the mountain and Agent Lee happily pointing it out.In the beginning of the season Lee told his woman that the flower was "the future" and knowing he is now at least 70 years old we have more questions then answers.

24: 11:00 AM-12:00PM
Jack is cleared and the spy in CTU and the one in the White House is revealed but it seems that they aren't against the US instead they have an alternate agenda.

TV Guide: Jan. 23-29

TV has been okay but I'm much more busy then last semester so unless something extra special happens on TV I'll be slowing down on the blog.
By "special" I mean a boob popping out or some really shocking plot twist. Maybe if someone besides Chloe dies on Smallville I'll rant about it.

Back to TV Guide. On the cover Marg Helgenberger and CSI. 4-pages of Marg and her show that I don't watch.

Good Things To Read Inside:

  • The 24 writers killed off Palmer & Michelle because there was nothing left to right about them.
  • Scrubs nearly lost their hospital set to a old folks home.
  • Juliette Lewis will be on My Name Is Earl.
  • Pics of Ashley Williams on How I Met Your Mother.
  • Elisha Cuthbert(Kim Bauer) will be back on 24 mid-season, eck.
  • Roush raves about sitcoms yet half of his picks have been canceled, haha.
  • An A to Z guide to Smallville plus a sum of the next episode.
  • Emily Deschanel loves her job on Bones.
  • Gavin Mcleod and Mary Tyler Moore will be on That 70's Show.
  • Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your Mother, basically he's a cool pig.
  • NBC lied during an ER promo, which I mentioned here before, and some one in TV Guide also noticed.

No Joey = Better TV

First of all that freakin' transit strike before Christmas resulted in nothing. The members rejected the contract and the will lose most of their gains in binding arbitration. Good!

Smallville: Lockdown
After surviving the Kryptonian attack earlier this season a rogue cop and his fiancee go to Lex to find the spaceship. They kill yet another black guy after Lex locks himself in a panic room.
The cop killers then get Lana but lose her to Lex and once again Lex is mortally wounded.
Of course everything goes well at the end when Clark comes to the rescue.
While watching the show someone pointed out that it looked like Tom Welling was wearing a hearing aid, but I thought it was shadow I've posted a picture. So is there something in his ear?

My Name Is Earl: Stole P's H D cart
Earl tries to help an old man after he stole the man's Hot Dog cart as a two hundred dollar heist for another hot dog vendor. Giavonni Ribisi also stars in this episode. The old gang must infiltrate an office to steal at least $10,000 of office supplies to make right what has now gone wrong with the old man's hot dog cart.
It was a dang funny episode and the best part was Darnell. In an obvious joke he reprised his role as Rubberband-Man from those OfficeMax commercials.

Here is a blog dedicated to Eddie Steeples(Darnell)
http://www.steeplechaser.blogspot.com/
Here are two of those famos Rubberband-Man ads. They are on an endless loop but here's the link and the other link.

24: 4 Hour Premiere

24 - Day 5: 7:00 AM-8:00 AM

Nice screenshot from aaron c using Elgato EyeTV 2 on his Mac. This is the only reason I'd get a Mac, their great video editing functions.

On Martin Luther King Jr. day they shot the first black president in nearly the same way that MLK was shot. That was not enough for 24, then blew up Michelle and wounded Tony. They then went after Chloe but she outsmarted them and called Jack.

Jack was roused from his new life as Frank, a day laborer renting a room and dating a woman with a teenage son. Jack steals a helicopter and meets Chloe who is still being followed. The problem is that the teenage boy followed Jack and now is part of the plot.

While at the secret meeting place Jack kills all the bad guys including the Presidential assassin but not before finding out he is being set up.

Jack is now a fugitive, meanwhile President Logan is signing a peace pact with Russia and his wife, played brilliantly by Jean Smart is nuts. The twist is she was contacted by ex-Prez. Palmer about a big terrorist plot and no one believes her. The inside bad guy is her secret service guard.

The big bad guy is watching everything from a media room, he is former Forever Knight star Geraint Wyn Davies.

The target seems to be an airport hostage stand to disrupt the peace treaty signing but that was just a distraction to get a key card.

Jack and teenage boy are stuck in the airport but manage to get the bad guys without further loss of innocent life(minus two dead on camera).

The first lady tries to prove she's not that crazy and uses all her assets to find the truth.Sean Astin comes into the mix as the Presidential overseer. Him and the director of CTU have a weird relationship, kind of an odd pair. Astin does play a big role when he helps decipher a code from Jack that means he's in distress.

Now the true plot is a coffin of nerve gas. The key card is used to unlock a vault to steal these canisters. For a second I thought it was a vampires coffin, I mean with DB Woodside from Buffy and Geraint Wyn Davies of Forever Knight. All in all it was a great beginning and Fox and Sutherland did great with this season.
