News Fail

I used to love local news especially WPIX where Kaity Tong has anchored for decades. The news was simple straight forward and light with fluff and teasers.

Then suddenly they started bringing in pundits and commentators who resemble rejects from FOX or Comedy Central. Then they changed the format to a standing woman in front of a green screen doing a top 11 news run down. It's like a Youtube version of the news. Unfortunately the ratings reflect that it is working. For me this news is now unwatchable.

Oh and they have the original anchors pushed to the side and weekends doing on the scene stuff.

Moving onto NY1 the only good news channel left suddenly changed from channel 1 to 8.

Worst part was that TiVo changed it 2 weeks ago but Cablevision did not move the channel until Monday. When TiVo deletes a channel you can no longer record or even watch the programs.I don't know why the move but I fear what shenanigans will happen soon.

Christmas Timeout

Usually Christmas means no new shows which is a good rest for us obsessive types.

Granted yesterday Men of a Certain Age did premiere and it was as depressing as ever.

Valerie, Valerie, Valerie,...

I got this song stuck in my head ever since the last episode of Glee.

Skip to the 50 second mark, it's just better that way.

Low Price TV For Sale

No I'm not selling my TV. Just saw hundreds of new televisions for sale over the Thanksgiving holiday. 40 inch name brand sets for $400 or less. As incredible as they were I still did not buy any.

The state of TV shows these days does not justify it. I was looking at $2,000 SLR cameras more than TVs. I guess this blog may transform to a photo blog.

Best of November:
Dexter, Weeds, The Big C, Chuck, Law & Order: SVU

The Walking Dead

Based on a comic book, wait don't runaway it is actually fun to watch.

I never actually read the comic book or any other comic book so I can't say if it is better or worse.

The series on it's own is good drama.

Like Resident Evil the main hero is a law enforcement person who slept through the zombie apocalypse. Hero cop is searching for his family and hopefully this show won't stretch it out too much.

What makes this zombie caper better than average are the zombies themselves. They are not always slow, they eat more meat than just humans, and they use tools. You almost feel sorry for them as they still have many human traits.

Other shows also premiering were Psych and Burn Notice. Too many one hour shows.

Foxed Up

Since I have Cablevision I have no Fox channels, which adds up to 10 channels.

Fox has a waiver in NYC and owns 2 broadcast channels (5 & 9). This would be illegal but that didn't stop Fox.
Now they are asking for twice as much money for these channels and are holding the viewers down by refusing to broadcast.

Luckily/unluckily the Yankees are not in the World Series and all Fox shows are repeat so no one is paying attention.

What I found extremely funny is that TiVo deleted all the channels from their guide 2 days after the blackout. So not only can't I watch Fox but I have no idea what Fox is showing.

Oh well more room for other channels. Since Fox was also blocking Cablevision internet access to Fox shows online.

Worst October Ever

Not because of TV but just life in general.

So how about TV?

Well all the shows are back and the best so far Dexter, Law & Order: SVU, Glee.

Worst  Running Wilde, a show about a rich guy who is mentally challenged and obsessed with a pretty woman.

Watched Ghostbuster today and man that is a great movie, you find a new funny each time you watch.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

So after 13,858 episodes As the World Turns ended on Friday to little fanfare.

Apparently the two and half tornadoes that hit NYC was more important. So any special soap opera coverage never happened.

As the World Turns was a NY filmed showed and it should have been an event but with the bad weather and the fact the show wrapped up back in July it did not have a big impact.

The final episode showed no old clips instead it had the chief of the hospital retiring in a quiet moment while a glass globe spun on his desk.

The ending was awkward since the shows power couple, Holden and Lilly, were not back together. This is because the original actress who played Lily was dumped last year and the replacement was not as good. Also ever clip of Lily was the original actress so they chose not to show her face again which was a big mistake.

As far as I can tell all the storylines wrapped up with love and babies.

So for the next week instead of showing clips and best of episodes the will have The Price is Right. Then after that they will have a new talk show that is just a copy of The View, which itself is a copy of Politically Incorrect.

The golden age of TV is gone and if I never get an HDTV I no longer care.

Before, During, After

Before people barely talked about the twin towers, unofficially they were an eyesore. No talked about a field in Pennsylvania. A few people talked about the Pentagon but with little sadness.

Before
During that day 19 Muslim extremists with hate in their hearts decide to kill and hurt and tried to forever change the American way of life.

During
After the people, mostly non-New Yorkers or non-Pentagon employees, decided that anger was good but being petty was better. First you had the greedy wives, then the deniers who swarmed the internet with foolish conspiracies. After a while you got the phony sick who spent 30 years smoking and then spent 2 weeks many blocks away from the site and whined their way to millions. Now you have the exploiters who seek to use the day to win elections or plug their church/mosque.

After
Still they tested the tribute in lights on Sept 10 while having no building to walk into on the 11th.

Rebuild and never forget.

Update for Update's Sake

List of awards and nominations received by Mod...Image via Wikipedia
It's not that I'm overwhelmingly busy at work more like TV has not been inspiring.

Emmys
Lots of great winners especially Modern Family for best comedy.
Shame that Mad Men won again seeing how I can't seem to get into the show.

Futurama
They should have kept it canceled. They have lost that edge.

Royal Pains, Rescue Me
Both shows have been stretching out their season beyond reason and with weak storylines this is not good.

As The World Turns
Well in a few weeks this longest running soap/TV serial/radio drama will end and they have been wrapping up storylines left and right.
Special guest, memorials for those who have passed, and lots of clips from over 50 years have been sprinkled throughout the final episodes.
I can only hope they end with dignity.

Reviews: Summer so far

Summer has been better than normal.
TV on the other hand has never been worse.

Royal Pains, Eureka, Psych, Warehouse 13, Wipeout have all returned without a bang. I mention only the shows I watch.
Sci-Fi as been particularly weak this season.

Haven a new Sci-Fi channel show based on the Stephen King novel The Colorado Kid is not good at all.

True Blood has been the only bright spot. That and repeats of ABC comedies I didn't see last year.

All the "premium" movies that made hundreds of millions in the box office are awful. Honestly I haven't seen a great movie in years.

I'm having more fun taking pictures of stuff being filmed around NYC than actually watching the shows.

Not a fan, at all, of Curb Your Enthusiam but still managed to find them filming.

Larry David, Cheyenne Jackson filming a scene at Washington Square Park.

I must say this camera is great.

Lost: Finale

HurleylostImage via Wikipedia
2 hours and 15 minutes of greatness and then 15 minutes of ghost nonsense.

The theory most people had about being in purgatory was partially correct.

The only clue given that the past 6 years on the island wasn't a dream was that Hurley mentioned to Ben that working together as the islands No. 1 and No. 2 were good years.

So the Island was real.
The flashbacks were real.
The flash-forwards were real.

The flash-sideways was fake.

I just wanted to write it down before I forget the show entirely.

One thing I did predict was that Hurley would ultimately be in charge.

Final Theory:
The light was a natural phenomenon  that people over the years have accidentally discovered all over the world, Eloise Hawking said as much.
On this Island the light allows people to make rules.

2,000 years ago a woman made a rule to keep the brothers on the island and not kill each other.
Once she died the Jacob made more rules about finding candidates, creating a lighthouse, rules about these candidates and rules for himself.
Now that Hurley is in charge he can make any rules he wants.

TV is abandoning me

CBS is axing five other shows, the majority of which, like "Whisperer," have female leads. Julia-Louis Dreyfus' "New Adventures of Old Christine," "Cold Case," starring Kathryn Morris, and the freshman Jenna Elfman sitcom "Accidentally On Purpose

They should cancel more

Heroes was just canceled yet Smallville keeps going.
Not that I want either to fail but when they just stretching episodes just for ratings sake then might as well cancel them.

Lost is getting better every episode.

Missing Scenes

I'm so busy I missed Glee and South Park.

What is worse is that they are not repeating South Park and I can't even find it online.

I've been missing shows left and right but currently I'm so tired I don't really care.
Crap I'm writing in my Facebook voice.

Subway Encounter #6

NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 21: Clinton Kelly attends...Image by Getty Images via Daylife
Clinton Kelly from What Not to Wear, saw him on the train but couldn't take a picture because it was too crowded.
Yes, he was well dressed despite the rain.

Previous subway encounters include, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Seth Meyers, and a few other character actors.

Yes, I Heard

But I'm actively avoid anymore death posts. I was a fan of Boner, that one Corey, and Mr. Graves and will be a fan of the next few who will die but it was getting a bit morbid last year.

Football is Football

Sure it's Superbowl Sunday but so far I've watched the Jersey Shore marathon and Puppy Bowl VI.

Since I don't care about either team I will catch up on my projects while the game is going.

Still Watching

Just not too much with the blogging of TV.

Dollhouse was just a hot mess.

Lost is back on Tuesday and I'm expecting about the same.

None of my football teams made it to the SuperBowl so I have no team to root for.

What Else is On

Modern FamilyImage via Wikipedia
So it is that time of the season where all my shows are on hold and I watch other shows just to have something unproductive to do.

Burn Notice is always great, caught up a lot with the marathon they had.

Modern Family: Julie Bowen and Ty Burell steal the show it is funny with out being outrageous.

The Middle:  Everyone is great while being outrageous, they are so good you don't even realize Chris Kattan is on the show.

Cougar Town: Courtney Cox tries real hard. What Julia-Louis Dreyfus does with ease Cox makes so hard...he he he. Busy Phillips is great as is the rest of the cast.

Scrubs: Med School while most of the original cast slowly fades away, although Carla was dropped like a brick, new students fill in their spot. I still enjoy the show although Dave Franco is a bit too much.

Better Off Ted: Great, great, great.

V: Finally caught up with all the episodes and it turned out better than I thought.
