Superbowl Blogging Live

Jennifer Hudson and the Newton children's choir were just okay. Alicia Keys singing the national anthem was fine but adding the extra line was unnecessary but common nothing special.

I do not care for either team so maybe I will focus on the ads.

The Lone Ranger trailer was shown and it looks so boring that I thought I was watching every other Tim Burton movie.

--Baltimore scores first.

Red M&M singing I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) by Meatloaf was cute.

The model Bar Refaeli making out with the background guy Jessie Heiman was disturbing. For GoDaddy this again was a controversial ad since the kissing was said to be a bit to graphic for CBS and Israel. Full 7 min ad here if you can stomach it, look all make out sessions are nasty unless you are doing it.

--49ers score 3. So 7-3 Baltimore.

Free Pepsi Next.

Black label beer also looks good but they used the theme song for 2 Broke Girls.

Oz The Great and Powerful looks cool.

--Fumble, there seems to be a bit of anger on that field.

Cars.com ad with a couple asking for drama then handed a wolf pup in front of the wolf mama is great.

Taco Bell ad with the old timers was good too.

--21-6 Baltimore

PEPSI HALFTIME SHOW
Beyonce was off-center with her light show.

Poor camerman are having mini-strokes each time she bends over, yes she is wearing flesh colored tights. Isn't the Superbowl a family event why is she in lingerie? Destiny Child reunion is underwhelming.

2 Broke Girls mini video was cute.

Stadium went black, someone forgot to pay their light bill.

Telex and printers are the main reason for the long delays. These pieces of tech are considered crucial for game play and 34 minutes passed before they were running.

Speed Stick ad was funny, waiting in the laundromat is horrible.

Budweiser ad was overly sentimental, ode to War Horse.

--28-20 Baltimore and another fumble in the 49ers favor.

Time Warner Cable / Walking Dead commercial was also funny.

--31-23, kicking has taken control.
--31-29 Baltimore only because the 49ers cannot get extra points by throwing.

So God made a farmer. By Ram has to be the best ad so far.

Kia's "Where do babies come from?" ad was cute and well done.

Tide's Montana stain ad was funny when the wife, a Raven's fan washes the sacred stain away.

--34-31 Baltimore wins and Flacco with is live potty mouth is MVP.

Elementary was the after show of choice and what a disappointment. I fell asleep.

2012 Olympic Opening Ceremonies

Everything was announced in French and English. History of London was on display ad they used a huge set that looked like something from Oliver Twist. The mock work done by the dancer seemed a bit silly. The whole thing looked like an episode of doctor who.

The Olympic rings being forged were cool to see as they seem to be floating in air.

Craig Daniels as James Bond picks up the Queen. They copter over all the icon places in the UK. The Queen and "Bond" seemingly jump out of the helicopter but of course this was all fake as the Queen gingerly walks into the Royal viewing area.

For some reason the UK national anthem was preformed by kids in their pajamas. The only integraed deaf and hearing choir in the UK, what the eff? Are they still that backwards!

Playing the Excorist theme song (Tubular Bells) during the tribute to healcare workers was creepy. Lighted blanket seems counterproductive.

JK Rowling tribute to reading and Peter Pan was also creepy. Child cathcers and Voldemort fights Mulitple Mary Poppins and loses.

Mr. Bean (Rowan) is doing some keyboarding although he is utterly board while doing the Chariots of fire theme. The bit was cute.

A way too long music/media tribute was boring since the original British pop culture references are not as popular as they think they are. Now the American version are defitnately international hits.

Some rapper?

Valerie by Amy Winehouse and Muse were the only highlights. Sir Tim the invetor of WWW was given his honors. Al Gore must be spinning in his grave.

Olympic torch relay was nice with Ab Fab's famed duo was great. A tribute to victims of something was nice.

The long march of the 204 nations began.

One of the Americans actually yelled baba booey.

The Olympic cauldron forming from many flutes of fire.

Flame on.

When is the Olympics on?

This Friday is the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and I have seen little coverage on the TV. Sure there was a shooting, epic heat, and some type of presidential elections so priorities have shifted.

The Olympics is being held  in London and broadcast on NBC locally. There is the problem that plagued other Olympics. There is a 5 hour difference so 12pm in London is 7am in NYC. Logic dictates that NBC should show all the major games live but they have never been good at doing what is logical. Historically they have delayed games to fit their schedule and that has proven to be a ratings disaster thanks to the internet.

I generally watch whatever random game is on and of course the opening and closing ceremonies. Since there seems to be no hype around the games I can really care less. NBC has nothing interesting on this summer so most people have not been watching the network at all. There are no breakout stars like Jordan or Jenner so that add to the dullness.

I once again call for the Olympics to be held in NYC. Mayor Bloomberg, when he is lucid, tried honorably to bring them here. London as been having issues but none of them are crippling. NYC  has had several sports championships, huge celebrity events, and grand holiday spectaculars with normal issues. People who thrive on fear of course will objective but again this is America and we should host this event with some safety and style.

Now to wait for Friday and hopefully not forget to watch the 2012 Olympics.

2012 Superbowl Champion NY Giants

Nice to see my home team win the Superbowl over their evil arch rivals. The game itself was great and tense even in the final seconds.

The Giants are known for 4th quarter comebacks and they did not disappoint. Let's face it the blew a 9-0 lead yet still fought back.

The Superbowl commercials were blah. I guess since most were shown online and in the news prior to the game it made the whole thing anticlimactic. The best for me was the one with the dog losing weight to get through his doggie door to chase some car.

Halftime show was a greatest hits mash-up that proved dancing should be left to the young. The low point was when M.I.A. try to make herself relevant by flipping the bird, grinding too much and cussing.

Time for a parade.

The parade was crowded and although it is 50 degrees and sunny I did not want to take a sick day so I watched it instead. Also I tried but could not win tickets to the Key to the City Ceremony. 250 tickets were up for grabs to 8 million New Yorkers, chances of winning were slim.

Great day for fans and an honorable team

Despite what the the incredibly loud and extremely morbose governor of NJ says the NY Giants will always be a NYC team despite their playing location. Lombardi Trophy is back in Vince Lombardi's home of NYC.

Now time for the NY Rangers to step it up.

Super Blah

Never  understood why they have a championship game without a NY team.

Last year I was deep into Puppy Bowl VI. Luckily NYC had a parade in Chinatown so I did not watch any marathons.

As dull as the game was the halftime show was quite sad, the only person that should have been auto-tuned wasn't. Usher and Slash, a noun and verb or two verbs?

The ads were forgettable, the one with all old shows was kind of nice. There was another that had something blowing up but right now I can't remember it.

Football is Football

Sure it's Superbowl Sunday but so far I've watched the Jersey Shore marathon and Puppy Bowl VI.

Since I don't care about either team I will catch up on my projects while the game is going.

World Series Week

Because of the World Series, GO YANKEES, most shows this week will either be repeated or not on at all.

Still no great loss as most shows have been less than entertaining. So far Glee and Dexter are the only shows to hold my interest.

V is coming on November 3 and it looks crappy. I enjoyed the original but unless they are hiding the best scenes the show looks like another overly written sci-fi mess.

I leave you with a cool image from http://shirt.woot.com/ that I saw a few days ago.

Remember eat all your candy corn before they go bad...real bad.

YES

Yankees Entertainment and Sports Network, Channel #89

All Yankees all the time, except when they are showing infomercials.

Yankees baseball is unique among all baseball and they are simply the greatest. How they win so much is quite simple. They never give up. A typical baseball game last 3 hours, the typical Yankees game is 4 hours + and they often comeback during the 8th and 9th innings.

Sure the lack of consistent pitching may be a problem but they focus on getting hits and they are equally prepared during the 15th inning as they are in the 1st.

Sidenote: I'm a Yankees fan.

Update: Forgot the also show NJ Nets basketball games but no one watches.

MSG, MSG Plus

Madison Square Garden Network, Madison Square Garden Plus, Channel #87, #88

MSG plays a lot of old games and other sport events from Madison Square Garden.

MSG Plus plays more modern games including soccer and other lesser sports. They use to show arena football but as of last week the league has been disbanded. Now we must watch Candian Football for all our off season football fix.

Both MSGs have sports talk but again MSG Plus is more current sports talk.

Part 2
Bollywood Hero has Kattan becoming more likable as he tries to make up for kissing a women in India. They barely touch on the hypocritical state of India as pioneers but not leaders in women's rights. Just as you start to like Kattan, the character, he messes up his new relationship by talking too much.

OTB

Off Track Betting, Channel #71

Watching the ponies go round and round then poof your money is gone. Horse racing and racing information 24/7.

This is the New York State owned and operated legal off track betting business. Once OTB parlors were all over the city but the current mayor pushed to get the city/state out of the gambling business. In 2008, my favorite, Mayor Mike Bloomberg handed over the NYC owned OTB to the state and warned of a financial collapse.

Guess what OTB is now $46 million in debt and may file for bankruptcy soon. The only reason OTB still exists is that $200 million in union pay is still needed keep workers satiated.

I have no issue with horse racing or gambling but once it went legit horse racing could never make a profit.

SNY

SportsNet New York, Channel #60

The place to watch most Mets games. For those not familiar with the NY Mets they are a baseball team that plays real well for most of the season and then choke with less than ten games to make it to the championship.

The channel is filled with classic games, live games, and lots of game talk. They are not baseball exclusive carrying some college hoops, boxing, and a few other minor sports. Many original shows are all sports related.

Beer Money
A game show where some random sports fan is confronted on the streets and asked tough sports question to test their fanatical nature. Three rounds of questions may win the person $100. I hope they never stop me.

The also carry Jets related content but no games.

ESPN

Entertainment Sports Programming Network, Channel #36

Guess what? Mostly sports.

I say mostly because half their line up are shows talking about sports. These sports talk shows are sometimes very good but when I'm not in the sports mood then it just sounds repetitive. Currently I'm big into football (American real football) but the season is over and haven't really been into baseball.

I've been trying to tan and get some fresh air but with 21 days of rain over the last 24 days it has soggy to say the least. It doesn't feel like baseball season at all.

ESPN2

Entertainment Sports Programming Network 2, Channel #35

Once known as the rebellious younger brother of ESPN. They had extreme sports like BMX, motorcross, skating, and snowboarding. Then they would occasionally show off-beat sports like curling, bowling, and others.

Today they just show the top ten sports and all major competitions that ESPN can't handle. One of the few American channels to go to for soccer, why anyone would is still a mystery over here. They did give a 5 second update that U.S. beat Spain and no one cared.

Watching Wimbledon Tennis is semi-interesting but what gets annoying is the reporters going into the stands to banter with the audience. Watching Maria Sharapova is something, hearing her grunt takes it to another uncomfortable level, didn't stay to see who won.

America won the Olympics, yeah.

Out of 17 days of Olympics that is 408 hours I saw maybe 8 hours missing the other 400.

I've yet to see the closing ceremonies so can't comment on that.

I didn't watch any basketball because Kobe Bryant was there and he's despicable.

My highlights were...

This guy is an incredible athlete and I know many Jamacians and completely get his sense of humor.

Micheal Phelps is another athletic monster I actually watched some of his races and seriously he's ridiculously good.

Ara Abrahamian he rightfully got mad when denied his rightful medal. Nice to see someone with passion.

Also so many first time winners.

Next on to Vancouver in 2010 then London in 2012.

All My Rowdy Friends Are Gone

Tonight I saw the last Monday Night Football game.

After 35+ years/36 season of Monday night football ABC lost this TV changing show to ESPN.
The 555th broadcast opened with the most best voice in Monday Night Football, Mr. Howard Cosell.
John Madden and Al Michaels showed clips and talked over this lackluster game. Some great stories and of course a few of thousand of the greatest football moments that happened on Mondays.

The first Monday Night Football game featured the Jets losing 21-31 to the Brown.
Today the Jets lost to the Patriots 21-31. Synergy people!!

The crew still has the Superbowl before they disappear forever.

If you know TV you know the impact Monday Night Football had on all the shows. Football at 9:00pm/ET forced every station to put up there lesser shows until 24 came around.

I saw some of the best games on Monday while flipping to the CBS sitcom in the last few years before TiVo came out.

Moving to ESPN is horrible not everyone has cable and I grew up on broadcast TV, it is not fair to put football out of reach to young fans, yes ESPN is basic cable but it still seems wrong.
