Late Week In Review

Damn the immigrants(all non-NYers) in the subway, they spread their diseases and got me sick.
But I'm back and will do a quick run through of last weeks events starting withe best show on TV SURFACE.

Surface: Episode 14
This was a great episode. Rich is having some odd nightmares that make him the bad guy.
Meanwhile the creatures are off the coast of Puerto Rico at the Caribbean Plate digging and cracking through the Earths mantle.
[ Let me drop some science here. One of the deepest trenches in the world is the Puerto Rican trench and it is highly unstable, for years scientist said if a major earthquake ever hit Puerto Rico the entire island could fall into the trench. Also Puerto Rico is part of the United States.]
Rich and Laura set up a trap for Agent Lee and tell him that he is a clone of the original "Lee". Lee doesn't seem to be all clued in so Rich knocks some sense into him, all Leee reveals is that the release of the creatures is not an accident.
Laura leaves Rich to see her kid and gets taken by Lee but not killed. Rich bust into Iderex, a company that Lee deals with. Rich finds canisters containing two of every animal on Earth and a huge facility that is preparing for something big.
Miles sister calls her boyfriend an asshole but it comes out butt wipe. Miles frys the boyfriend during a fight. The police come to get Miles but a mob of parents take him instead. Right before the mob lynches Miles the sheriff informs them a tsunami is heading there way and it already killed 10,000 people in San Jaun, Puerto Rico.
Great episode in everyway. Just one more to go.

TV Guide: Jan. 30-Feb. 5
On the cover Grey's Anatomy and stars Justin Chambers & Katherine Heigl. A four page article talks about their after Superbowl episode. Chambers, Alex on the show, has five kids with his wife Keisha. Heigl is dating singer Josh Kelley.
As usual the subscription copy is slightly different from the on stand issue.
Good Things To Read Inside:

  • Eamonn Walker of Oz fame will be on ER.
  • A new Superman: The Animated Series special is being made.
  • Faison and Braff are as close in real life.
  • Arrested Development's last 4 episodes will be back to back against the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on February 10.
  • I hate Rochell D. Thomas' column Is It Just Me? but then again it could just be me.
Oprah: Dave Chappelle Interview
What Dave said: I was stressed and getting bad advice.
What Dave meant: The white man is working to destroy me and all other rich black people.
What Oprah said: You sound like at the time you were crazy.
What Oprah meant: You are still crazy and you will be back on my show when you realize there is no conspiracy.

On a side note Ben Stiller and Robin Williams just finished filming scenes of A Night at the Museum in the American Museum of Natural History, unfortunately I could not get pictures of the set. Apparently they are using CGI not puppets to make the animals come to life.

TV Guide: Jan. 23-29

TV has been okay but I'm much more busy then last semester so unless something extra special happens on TV I'll be slowing down on the blog.
By "special" I mean a boob popping out or some really shocking plot twist. Maybe if someone besides Chloe dies on Smallville I'll rant about it.

Back to TV Guide. On the cover Marg Helgenberger and CSI. 4-pages of Marg and her show that I don't watch.

Good Things To Read Inside:

  • The 24 writers killed off Palmer & Michelle because there was nothing left to right about them.
  • Scrubs nearly lost their hospital set to a old folks home.
  • Juliette Lewis will be on My Name Is Earl.
  • Pics of Ashley Williams on How I Met Your Mother.
  • Elisha Cuthbert(Kim Bauer) will be back on 24 mid-season, eck.

TV Guide: Jan. 16-22

On the cover Matthew Fox and the title Lost. Yet once again my issue is different from the official version. In the newsstand version you receive one of four Sci-Fi collectors cards but not in the subscription issue. They don't even mention the cards. They are constantly sending renewal forms but what is the point with only half the content.
The article inside is all about Matthew Fox or as everyone calls him "Foxy". The 39 year-old actor and photographer is married with two kids. There are plenty of ppicture Foxy took on the set included in the article.

Good Things To Read Inside:

  • The "Lost numbers" have appeared in Veronica Mars and on the cover of DC Comics Catwoman.
  • Pics of Patrick Dempsey's trailer are better then my apartment.
  • Gillian Anderson in Bleak House on PBS.
  • Are Scrubs' Turk and J.D. TV's cutest couple?
  • Did you know Maisa Tomei is 41.

TV Guide: Jan. 9-15

You cheating bastards. No, not you. TV Guide cheated me out of a chance to win fabulous prizes. Look at the cover picture it says 'WIN CASH IN OUR NCIS GIVEAWAY SWEEPSTAKES' but my subscription cover says 'SURPRISING PASSIONS REVEALED! 10 THINGS ALL FANS SHOULD KNOW'. How dare they not give me a chance to play, is it because I get TV Guide for free or is because I won one of their contest last year or is it because of racism. Hmmmm.

On the cover is Mark Harmon and NCIS. 4 pages about a show I don't watch.

Good Things To Read Inside:

  • Mr. Eko's backstory this Wednesday.
  • ER's Noah Wyle and Mekhi Phifer go to Africa for the show.
  • Christina Ricci on Grey's Anatomy.
  • Smallville has cast Lee Thompson Young as Cyborg.
  • The psuedo-gay guy on Four Kings was suppose to be gay but they rewrote it to straight guy.
  • Lorelai has a wedding dress for Gilmore Girls.
  • Anything To Win a documentary about cheating in sports Tuesday on GSN.
  • Monk starts Friday.
  • James Marsters returns to Smallville toward the end of the season.
  • Charmed beats Laverne & Shirley as the longest running female lead show in history.
  • A 24 catch-up-guide.
  • Sunday Jennifer Love Hewitt will be in an ABCFamilymovie.
New York Magazine: Jan 9
Once again just reading through and read an interview with Eliza Dusku of Tru Calling and Buffy fame. Very enlightening interview. She basically says that she did not like playing Faith in Buffy or Angel and thought it was a disappointing role. This is why she turned down a spin-off.
She also says that the Maxim spread she did was forced on her by the studio.
She's now doing an Off Broadway play about the evil Peanuts gang called Dog Sees God where she plays a pryomaniac Lucy. She is also shopping around for a better faith, as in better then the Mormon one she grew up in.

TV Guide: Dec. 26-Jan.1

Damn the year is about over, my college pushed back registration to January 16 because of the strike and I just finished all my shopping and celebrations with friends yesterday.

Oh well at least I'll have two weeks before school starts calling.

On this TV Guide cover we have TV PREVIEW 25 new show and 14 returning favorites. The 8 page article starts off with 24 which I will not read because it's full of spoilers. Lots of the new shows sound crappy. For example: The Book of Daniel stars Aidan Quinn as a drug addict minister who talks to Jesus Christ...hmmm it's a cross between House and Joan of Arcadia.
There is What About Brian in the vain of Freddie or How I Met Your Mother has Barry Watson being single with hottie Sarah Lancaster.
Scrubs is back on Tuesday January 3rd.
John Stamos and Rebecca Romijn both have shows about being single, rich and beautiful.
Beauty and The Geek 2, 'nuff said.

Good Things To Read Inside:

  • Mariah Carey sings at Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' 2006.
  • Series Finale of Hot Properties...never saw one episode.
  • The top 5 shows are on CBS and I've never seen any of them, CSI, Survivor, etc.
  • Huge new behind the scenes pictures of Surface including some spoilers and a new character. January 2nd is the first new episode and there is tons of diving.
  • Abby is preggers on ER because Tierney is in real life.
  • Justine Bateman on Arrested Development.
  • Jeers to the Jeers of the idiot who complained about Monday Night Football schedules, this is not a sitcom you can't pick the best teams and throw them up on any giving Monday.
  • Joss Whedon jokes about TV.
  • Soaps are getting worse with 24 episode in story commercials and Dancing tie ins.
  • Some pretty pictures of the TV stars.
  • In Memoriam with so many famous people who died this year.
  • Their top ten holiday episodes are wrong, the have the Honeymooners and The O.C. on the same list.

Okay I would add that the best Christmas episode in recent years had to be Popular: "Fall on Your Knees" the episode had mean bitch Nicole Julian(Tammy Lynn Michaels) in her own personal version of The Christmas Carol being visited by the 4 ghost and learning a lesson for a day. It was a great epiosde and soon after the show went to hell.

TV Guide: Dec. 19-25

Well I'll first say the Giants are 10 - 4 and doing great, let's not speak of the Jets.

Second the transit strike has been pushed back to midnight Tuesday. I still haven't shopped mostly because I got a whole bunch of free online coupons and discounts I may use..oh yeah and my overwhelming laziness.

Third I finally got FX on my cable, now let's see what all the hype is about.

TV Guide: Oct. 17-23

On the cover of this new large format TV Guide is Ty Pennington with a sledge hammer under the title, TV Guide’s Extreme Makeover. On page one we have Ian Birch, Editor-in-Chief, delivering a message to the readers. He basically says since we have mostly one-hour shows and thousands of channels they must focus on what’s hip instead of what’s on your TV. The cover story is about how TV Guide teamed up with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s two-hour special on 10/16. They offered up 10,000 TV Guide for a secret project on the show. In case you don’t watch the show the project was a wallpaper of TV Guides for a kids’ camp.

Good and new things inside this issue:

  • A HOTList, 21 shows in 7 days, 3 per day, recommendation such as Lost and Charmed.
  • BREAKING News, Bruce Willis on That ‘70s Show, Vaughn is back on Alias, the FCC on Family Guy, we meet basement guy on Desperate Housewives, Ron Livingston on House, and The 4400 is back next summer.
  • There not recasting Walt on Lost because he didn’t grow much. CSI is the most watched show.
  • Kevin James and his Filipina-supermodel wife had a child Sept.30.
  • Lost questions & answers: The Dharma film was spliced by a previous resident and the missing scenes lead to something. Walt said “Push the button. Don’t push the button, bad.”. Although that encounter was a dream it means something for the 108 countdown. Desmond will be back. Time is never mentioned on the show, THEY NEVER SAID THE PLANE CRASHED IN 2004, NO ELECTIONS OR HISTORY IS EVER MENTIONED. In November we find out how all the Rutherfords are related. The two Helens of Locke are explained.
  • Matt Roush likes My Name Is Earl.
  • Veronica Cartwright’s history as a scream queen.
  • Alfre Woodard interview.
  • An A-Z guide to Desperate Housewives.
  • Photo Booth: cool pics and cool trivia for each person.
  • Radar a shopping guide for the crap on TV shows.
  • Tyler James Williams interview.
  • Kari Wuhrer was fired from General Hospital and Passions is going anime.
  • The grid and listings section is replaced with This Week featuring recaps of top shows, a movie guide with only four or three star movies. A daytime guide, a prime time guide and highlights for each day and then a late night guide all in 39 glossy pages.
  • They added the game SUDUKO to the crossword puzzle in the back.
Finally Judgment: The format is okay, I never used the grid since I got TiVo so no big loss, the per day highlights may become useful. The focus on only popular shows is somewhat disconcerting. The articles are better and long enough to be interesting. Also I didn’t lose this issue as I usually do with the small versions. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
