Stargate Universe: Series Finale

Shows either end or the writers want an opportunity to make a movie a DVD in the future so the give a cop-out of an ending.  (Sopranos)

Stargate Universe had no real ending. Instead everyone gets frozen on their way to an unknown galaxy while one character gets left on in the cold, not literally. The one guy is smart enough to survive but has 2 weeks until the air runs out. From what I understand the power went out after 2 weeks and we see him staring out the window with a smirk.

Did he fail? Did he succeed and is taking a victory lap? Did he find another option?
Did I waste my time watching this show?

Stargate Universe

Stargate Universe: Common Descent

The least good of all the Stargate series is ending the show in a gooder way. Grammar aside the show started slow with a lost in space vibe but without alien encounters or fun sci-fi goodness. Instead they were just very introspective.

Now that the show is coming to an end they are meeting aliens, fighting robots, and time-traveling.

This episode has the crew meeting their descendants on a planet and then getting trapped with them while others search for the the rest of the great-great-great-great-grand kids. Apparently some previous accident split their ship into two and while using the Stargate the crew went 2,000 years back in time.

The second-crew established a modern civilization but the unstable planet caused problem and they disappeared stranding scouting parties throughout the local Stargates.

Confused enough yet?
All I know, since I've been missing a few episodes, is that now everyone on the crew is good and they all love each other, but they're running out of patience.

The Future is Sad

Yes the second half of the season has begun and I'd rather be watching movies. Not that I'll stop watching my old shows just that I can't stay awake for them. Plus continuing with my Lifetime-fest I can now see the end of TV.

Stargate Atlantis: Vegas
This was an alternate reality episode with implications to the Stargate universe we are familiar with but my goodness it was slow paced and boring. Sure it was sad but I fell asleep through most of it. I'm not working or studying so this must be one dull episode. Next week is the "Series Finale", and by the quotes I mean going to DVD.

My Mom's New Boyfriend
Meg Ryan, Antonio Banderas, Colin Hanks, and Selma Blair along with other top celebs star in this movie so it must be a high budget theater flick.
No.
It was a straight to DVD release and ended up on Lifetime. The movie is about a mom who dates a thief. Of course twist and revelations abound but while cute I can't see how so many famous people ended up in this amateur flick. Yes I get these stars are no longer A-list but still this is barely a romantic-comedy.

Smother
Liv Tyler, Diane Keaton, and Dax Shepard in a almost unwatchable comedy about a wacky mom. I know this movie came out in September 2008 but where? I understand actors must continuing working if not they will be forgotton so I can forgive movies like these.
My issue is that this movie was highly promoted on Lifetime. Is this the future.

As DVDs soon go out to pasture then these embarassing movie and failed TV shows will end up either on some iTunes queue or directly sold to a TV station. When the merger of TV and the internet is complete then will each station just charge you to watch this crud. Hyping Liv Tyler in a movie then you pay $6.99 to be sorely disappointed.

Pushing Daisies is a good example. It is off ABC's schedule but there are 3 episodes left. What to do? The Disney empre wants to make a profit so they will likely release them on an Exclusive Full Season DVD with "Never Before Seen Episodes" then sell the show to Sci-Fi as they market the Never Seen on Cable label. Sure if there is enough fans or a hole in the upcoming ABC season then we'll see it on air.

With networks refusing to spend money on actual shows and the fad of reality shows fading fast then soon you'll see more low budget movies being used as filler.

Sci-Fi friday

I'll admit Flash Gordon is better then I first thought or I'm desperate for any TV show with a script.
The show started out like many sci-fi crap with a search for someone lost. Flash looked for his father for a few episodes now he is focused on uniting aliens in a war against Ming the Merciless.

Stargate Atlantis: Harmony
This was the best episode of the half-season which is not saying much. It had a teen queen being escorted through a forest by two Atlantis team members.
It was funny and clever but very predictable. At least it wasn't another talk fest like last weeks quarantine.

I watch Sci-fi to watch aliens, robots, and humans fight not to be preached on how bad the Iraq war is..cough...cough...BATTLESTAR GALACTICA..cough.

Atlantis is better

Stargate Atlantis: Sunday

Damn that was a depressing episode.

Everyone on the main Atlantis team has a day off and we see what happens in flash backs from the moment of an explosion.

The running theme is fun and love with minor characters and also Dr. Carson Beckett looking for a fishing buddy. There are shades of Grey's Anatomy when we see Dr. Beckett preforming bomb surgery.

Kind of saw this coming since Stargate: SG-1 also killed off their doctor.

Addiction Recovery

Hello my name is Man and I am a TV addict.

For years I would watch up to 5 shows at the same time now I have a busy life and have only been watching what I actually care about.

Why the change? Easy because of great shows like Surface that only lasted a half season. Also good shows like The 4400 that turned to crap but more important most of this semester classes invovle computer assignments which leaves me little time to watch TV.

So my new policy is just watch returning shows and only a few new ones the others are probably going to cancelled and available for free on YouTube in case I every really want to watch them.

I look forward to watch Jericho on CBS, Men In Trees on ABC and any show I watched last season.

Now for some brief reviews:
House: Meaning
6 weeks after emerging from a medicaly induced coma House is fine and healthy he treats 2 patients, one of which was Claire Kramer better known as Glory/Glorificus from Buffy. Soon though House notices he has some pain and gets himself some pills. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't show his path to recovery or the results of the patients from the season finale.

Stargate SG-1: Memento Mori
Vala gets her memory wiped by a Goa'uld and becomes a waitress. The story center around Vala's trust issues and was nicely done. At the end she officially becomes part of the team.

Stargate Atlantis: McKay & Mrs. Miller
Very cool episode dealing with McKay's personal issues and featuring his sister. Which was played by his Hewitt's(Mckay) REAL LIFE SISTER. That was cool watch it again if you did not know this before and you'll see the brother-sister chemistry between them. We also meet a cooler version of Dr. Mckay from a parallel universe. Also a very touching episode about family and friends. Who knew nerds were so sentimental. I guess thats why it took the almost destruction of 2 universes to bring out the emotions.

Stargate Special
A clip show featuring Gary Jones who plays Chief Mst Sgt. Walter Harriman who is wondering will he be in the 200th episode. They show lots of funny clips and previews of the 200th episode.

Stargate SG-1: 200
Just as expected it was a funny take on the Sci-Fi with Willie Garson as Martin Lloyd the alien with a Hollywood agebda. He is pitching the mvie version of Wormhole X-treme and needs approval of the SG-1 team. Everyone has their own take on the script the best being a Farscape joke. Lots of laughs that no doubt is on Youtube and a dozen websites.

The puppet scene went on way to long.


Stargate Atlantis: The Real World
A continuation of last weeks episodes with Dr. Weir under a coma made by replicants. The first half hour has her on Earth trying to save herself from the loony bin as everyone tells her that Atlantis isn't real. O'Neill plays a bad version of himself trying to control her mind.
Very well split and nice to see Earth again. Of course she wins.

Sci-Fi Friday vs. TiVo

Stargate SG-1: Uninvited
Mitchell and the General are bonding at Jacks cabin for some odd reason. While Sam is in charge of Stargate command.
Both the cabin boys and the Stargate teams are getting attacked by mutant monsters. They figure out that transdimensional worms are causing all the mess and find a way to stop them.

Stargate Atlantis: Progeny
The team finds an ideal planet but it's made of Replicants, damn. So they learn the true origins of the Replicators and try to free them of there warped ways but only suceeded in getting them angry.

TiVo
My nice little black PVR has gotten kid friendly. They upgraded to KidZone a feature that filters shows for kids according to age. It is customizable and completely unneccesary for me.They also changed the "Pick Programs To Record" option to "Find Program".

This kid safe crap is getting ridiculous I bought Tivo for a simple recording device not some restictive complicated computer. Yes I know it's optional to use but it still takes up precious space on my TiVo.

Stargate SG-1: Insiders
There are lots of Baals and the potential for ball jokes were high but alas they kept it mostly serious.
All the Baal clones gather at Stargate Command to "help" find an ancient weapon but it is to obvious of a set-up and Baal escapes with some gate addresses from the Stargates files.

Baal is a bit wimpy know he didn't even kill anyone.

Stargate Atlantis: Sateda
This was a Ronon centered episode. He gets recaptured by th Wraith and taken home. We see in flashbacks his sad life before Stargate: Atlantis. He lost everyone and decides to fight alone. Losing he gets help from some friends and realizes he has a new family that will always be there for him.

Luckily this sappy episode began with a shot in the rump to the obnoxiuos Rodney.

Someone's Connected

I keep losing my cable connection which is dumb because the heat wave just started and I and the rest of New York City have been spending time unplugging stuff just to avoid the 10 day blackout in Queens. When I lose cable I have no TV or internet but since my phone is separate then I always have it, too bad I tend to avoid most calls.

Back to TV.

Stargate SG-1: The Pegasus Project

I like when they combine two shows and they did for this episode. The crew of SG-1 visits the crew of Atlantis to rig a blackhole between the Ori supergate.
The problem they are getting surrounded by the Wraith and the Ori which are superior in every way.
But like good renegades they destroyed both enemies and manage to establish a black hole gate.
Very funny episode and the two crews really got along great it wasn't awkward at all.


Stargate Atlantis: Irresistible
Richard Kind guest stars as a man that can make anyone fall for him. Everyone who meets him gradually becomes addicted to him. Except for Shepard who has a cold, yet still is going out on missions. Eventually they isolate the cause of his charming ways and cure the whole village and Atlantis. They return Kind's character to the village for an unkown fate but I wouldn't be surprised to see him again.

Damn it happened again no sevice for twenty minutes.

I couldn't record Monk and it was getting good.

I can get older Daytime Dollars code if they are needed.

Sci-Fi Better

Stargate SG-1: Morpheus
This was a funny and gripping episode.
The funny came with a overly cheerful Vala trying to pass a psychological test. At first she tries cheating her way through but after feeling as she would fail she quits. This act plus agreeing not to be a spy lands her a job in Stargate Command.
The gripping was with an away mission goes wrong. The team along with some "red shirts" go to a planet were a parasite infects them and gives them a sleeping disease. The red shirts die but the rest of team falls asleep only to be rescued by a second team that went there to cure them. It was nice to see the team completely fail.

Stargate Atlantis: Misbegotten
The crew of Atlantis are happy with a new ship but are feeling some guilt over having to abandon some human-former-Wraith. These former Wraith eventually get there memories back and stage a coup. The crew loses there new ship but manage to blow up the former Wraith, at least that is what they believe,. No bodies could be found.


Monk: Mr. Monk and the Big Game
A very funny episode has Monk investigating a school teachers death. He must help coach a basketball game and gets a whistle. The whole whistle scene in the camp area was hilarious. Imagine someone with OCD given a whistle.
With lots of help from Natalie he solves the case but loses the big game, which ws so perfectly sad.

Psych: Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace
I'll just say there was a brief second when the fake-psychic was explaining how he determined a fake hand-writing. It was much more fascinating then the crappy psychic storyline.
They should drop the psychic bit and just call him an expert.

They did this before on a Steven Weber show called Cursed. Weber was a guy with a gypsey curse to have bad luck, that premise was so dumb it was dropped after the pilot and improved the show that only lasted a few episodes. It was renamed The Weber Show.

Sci-Fi Is Back. Ho-Hum.

Stragate SG-1 True Science
This was a promotional documentary of Stargate hosted by Amanda Tapping and including scientist explaining what was possible from the show. It was a one sided documentary but still nice enough.

Stargate SG-1: Flesh and Blood
Vala gives birth to a girl infused with Ori badness. Meanwhile the rest of the crew is battling the best special effects in years and losing. Everyone survives butVala leaves her daughter behind.

Typical of sci-fi these days they outgrew the kid from newborn to teenager in one episode about 12 hours.

Stargate: Atlantis
Earth is the target of The Wraith and they only hope is the crew of Atlantis. While stopping the ship they lose their own but decide to transform the Wraith ship to something more human friendly.

The effects on both episodes were great, space fighting is always cool but the storylines are falling short.

Stargate Use To Be Good

Browder was finally used in an episode and it sucked. Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell has his memory messed with and thinks he killed a chick but really didn't.

Stargate Atlantis: Epiphany
Actually quite a good episode. Sheppard is trapped in a bubble that is moving faster in time then the normal world. He meets some villagers that are besieged by a beast. He helps them gain courage to defeat their fear-beast and they "ascend".

Battlestar Galactica: Resurrection Ship (Part. 2)
The crews of the two battlestars work together to attack the cyclons. The battle was great and the humans win. Eventually when the dust settles it's time for assassnations but both leaders call it off.
Meanwhile Baltar confesses his love to Cylon Model Number Six no. III nd lets her escape. She then finds the admiral and kills her.
Now Adama is admiral and loving it.

Ghost Whisperer: Last Execution
A dead criminal guy is trying to help his daughter. The bad guy is a gallery owner who bought all the criminal's paintings. The daughter fights to clear her dad's name. The secret is that the dad had a contract leaving his daughter with a percentage of all sales his paintings make. He even possess the gallery owner to agree with it.
It was a very violent and disturbing episode. Melinda gets her hair caught in the garbage disposal and has to have it cut. Yet She is still cheerful and happy despite all these ghost trying to kill her and her hubby every week. First they have her in a tight bodice number with "asses in the seat" as they say, then she's bent over the seat taking it from a ghost. For shame.

Freckin' Friday

Ghost Whisperer: Friendly Neighborhood Ghost
The Dead-Americans in Melindas life are getting more powerful and one even stopped the breath of a living man. Melinda seems unphased at being grabbed by strange men. But as usually she is fine and resolves everything. On a good note the Asian boy was back and lost the third-eye for ghost, the dead dog was back and her newest pet and the phantom ghost is back watching her.
Nice to see they sewn some holes on the show.

The Book Of Daniel: Temptation and Forgiveness
A priest, his drug selling daughter, his gay son, his adopted Asian son, a dead son, an alcoholic wife, a woman boss and a missing 3.2 million dollars walk in to a bar and pops some pills.
Skip to the punchline...and Jesus walks in and he's the comic relief.
A little bit of light is that Jesus said he used to talk to the priest father but stopped.
The show itself is well shot and acted with lots of New York soap and Oz actors and Neve Campbell's brother as the gay son but the show tries to hard to be edgy.

Stargate SG1: The Fourth Horseman
Still Ben Browder does nothing and the team talks sense to religious fanatics, now that is unrealistic.

Stargate Atlantis: The Hive
More evil queen aliens in a hive collective...hmmm sounds familiar.

Battlestar Galactica: Resurrection Ship
The admiral is a family killing pyscho and they have to kill her but she has killing plans of her own. Nice tense episode. Still the strongest show on the line-up. Nothing gets resolved because everything is on hold while the two Battlestars prepare to attack a Cylon "Resurrection ship" filled with hot blond robot models.

Surface is repeating Mondays at 7pm/ET on Sci-Fi. Not my picture above but seemed right to steal.

Masters Of Horror: Fair Haired Child
A hot geek girl is kidnapped and going to be sacrifced to bring back some couple's son. Well she is sacrificed but the couple is then offered up to bring the hot geek girl back and the two kids live happily ever after.
A good episode overall.

Stargate Atlantis: Aurora/ The Lost Boys
Blah, blah, blah sucky.

Battlestar Galactica: Pegasus
Best damn season finale in a long time. When the two guys run to stop the raping of Sharon II you wanted that old bastard do die, and he did.

Firefly: Ariel
Good episode you really get to know who Jayne(Adam Baldwin) really is.

Tuesday September 27 the Sci-Fi channel willl have a Firefly Marathon . The first ten episodes.

Stargate SG-1: Prototype
They find Anubis’ test tube son. He’s bad and trying to evolve. They stop him and learn a little about the ancients.

Stargate SG-1: The Fourth Horseman
The lackluster season finale has the Ori moving in on the Jaffa. Louis Gosset Jr. as Gerak gets converted by the Ori.
Sam old ascended stalker comes back as a child to help. Meanwhile the U.S. is getting infected with an Ori plague.
The season ends without ever showing Ben Browders full potential.

Battlestar Galatica: Flight of the Phoenix
Best of the rest. Everyone is on edge and the must pull together during a computer-infection. The Cylons are coming and the only hope is Sharon II.
She helps and cripples the Cylon fleet making them easy targets.
Meanwhile the crew bonds over a new ship being made by hand.

Firefly: Out of Gas
Finally I hear the story of the crew. We find out that the year is 2517 A.D. and Earth is all “used up” and the humans go out and terraform every planet they find. The Alliance controlled all the best planets and decided to take over the galaxy.
This episode also had the crew reliving their first experiences on the ship.
Kaylee literally comes aboard with a bang even though I swear in previous episodes she said she’s an innocent pure girl with no experiences with men.

Sci-Fi Friday

Stargate SG-1: Babylon
Finally a mission where there’s fire fight. Mitchell is taken prisoner and must fight for an honor/revenge death or something. He trains for two weeks and becomes friends with the victim’s brother and they cheat to survive. Everything is fine at the end.

Stargate Atlantis: Conversion
Yet another member of the Atlantis team is transforming into a super-being. Funny how they never turn into a weak little nothing. Two red shirts die and no one seems sad about it, nice military brotherhood. I think there is some chemistry with Caldwell and Weir.


Battlestar Galactica: Final Cut
Lucy Lawless debuts as a reporter trying to release some tabloid stuff about the “massacre of coffee” but she warms to the crew of Galactica and does a nice fluffy propaganda piece.
Also….
She’s a robot, a frecking Cylon spy. Never trust reporters.



Firefly: Jaynestown
Cranky Jayne goes back to his old stealing grounds and finds out he’s an undeserved hero. We see the honor in him for a few moments.

Stargate SG-1: Ex Deus Machina
On Earth a dead Jaffa turns up. Back on Jaffa world Teal’C is having problems rallying support. Dr. Jackson is investigating a disappearance. Carter is not single; hmmm could she be with Jack. Ba’al is alive and on Earth, Gerak violates our air space and captures and kills him, but there are many clones of him so we’ll see him again and again and again.

Stargate Atlantis: Instinct
Off on another strange planet the locals do their best American Werewolf in London impression. They have a Wraith on the loose and Team-Atlantis is hunting it. They track it to a cave and a man claims that the Wraith is his daughter. She was a child crash survivor but her adopted-father thinks it’s another Wraith killing town’s folk.
The Wraith are evolved alien-mosquitoes and a rural doctor has made a juice to make her not feed. The Atlantis people think they can make a serum to turn Wraiths into humans.
The serum was a dud and girl-Wraith has been feeding on people, she took the retro-virus to cure herself and instead turned more savage.
The girl-Wraith had to be killed but like any good werewolf story Sheppard was bitten and will transform.


Battlestar Galactica: Home
Adama is looking for the tomb of Athena. Sharon II has memories of Sharon I. When Adama has his reunion it is nice and sweet until he sees Sharon II and nearly kills her.
Baltar thinks he might be crazy and while reviewing his x-rays I believe he gives the other doctor the middle finger.
Sharon does the right thing and doesn’t kill Adama. At the tomb of Athena we see all 12 horoscopes even though there really are 13. But they have 13 colonies and Earth is the starting point. Everyone is back on track, working together and acting right.
Baltar overhears that Sharon II is pregnant and confirms he’s not crazy or has a chip in his head, so what is going on with him and his shadow.
In two weeks Lucy Lawless appears as a nosy reporter.

Firefly: Safe
Cow rustling is the theme and River is getting in the way. The preacher gets shot. Doc and River are kidnapped and River is found to be a witch. Everyone’s happy at the end.

Next week the will have a Stargate SG-1 viewers choice marathon so no new episodes. I guess they know college started and are giving us a break.

Sci-Fi Friday

I got it! It’s Stargate Atlantis that drains the energy out of me faster than a hungry Wraith. So I fall asleep during Atlantis and wake up all disoriented for the other Sci-Fi Channel shows. Once again I’ll keep it short and pass over any details.

Stargate SG-1: Beachhead

The Ori sent a Prior to bring the word to some Jaffa, they refuse and so the Prior starts a force field to transform the planet. Soon the Jaffa are all dead and the bubble is growing. SG-1 brings Samantha Carter back to help she and a Goa’uld suggest a nuke. They use it against Vala’s wishes and the bubble takes over the entire planet.
The Goa’uld betrays them and a huge Stargate is about to be formed bringing an army to our galaxy but Vala takes a ship and uses it to prevent the gate from activating and disappears when the gate is destroyed. Dr. Jackson doesn’t die so they believe that Vala may be alive in the Ori galaxy.

Stragate Atlantis: Trinity
Oh so sleepy. From what I saw coward-McKay finds a big power source in a dead Ancient city and wants to use it. He tries twice the first time kills a red-shirt and the second blows the entire planet up. If your counting it’s the second planet explosion in the last hour.
Meanwhile Tyr Ronon finds not all his people died so he meets up with his old commander and kills him. There was some logic and thin excuse he gave but I guess they are trying to establish his character as unpredictable or honor bound, cough, Warf, cough…cough.

Battlestar Galactica: Home Part 1
Starbuck, Helo and Sharon II, who is now pregnant, are all back in the President’s fleet. Sharon II saved her fine ass by sharing her knowledge of the Tomb they are searching for on Kobol.Zarek and Meier are planning a hostile take over.
On the Galactica, Adama is still mad and making poor hiring decisions which has the position of CAG (Commander, Air Group) and the squadron in shambles. Adama gets some advice from the private and decides to reunite the fleet and heal the wounds.

Firefly: Shindig
There’s an Australian party and Kaylee gets to dress like a girl. River acts crazy in a new and creative way. The captain wins and no one dies. Short enough for my satisfaction.

Sci-Fi Friday

Is it me or are these shows getting more boring each week. Battlestar Galactica being the exception. So I'll keep it short.

Stargate SG-1:
Vala is still around and connected to Dr. Jackson. She poses as a god while traveling to her old home. Jackson makes her tell the truth and puts her on the execution path for a third time. The Ori make their power known and win over the village but Vala is spared.
We finally learn the relationship with Lexa Doig and Beau Bridges character, they're father and daughter.

Stargate Atlantis:
They visit a prison island with an advance culture on the main land. The advanced people tell them they saved themselves by offering criminals as food to the Wraith. Eventually the Atlantis crew rescue all the good hearted criminals and the Wraith go for a buffet in the advanced culture.
McKay did make a MacGyver joke.

Battlestar Galactica:
Starbuck is wounded in battle and taken to a Caprica hospital. We learn she was abused as a child, by her ten broken fingers. The hospital is actually a Cylon birthing center with dozens of women being bred like cattle. Starbuck kills them all and fights some Cylons before being rescued. Sharon II returns with a ship and helps them. Starbuck got the arrow back and is heading home.
Back on Galactica the president is on the run and plays the religion card to head back to Cobol with one third of the fleet. Adama has a mini-breakdown.

Firefly:
The crew finds an empty ship they go on-board to take the booty and find one survivor and plenty of dead ones. Those Reavers are to blame, the survivor is so messed up he thinks he's a cannibal Reaver and starts killing people. The Alliance comes in and at first arrest everybody but then lets them go without the loot.
Another reason I never got into the show is that they never got any loot at least not in the few episodes I saw.
